International Halal Showcase
Enriches Brunei Entrepreneurs

Begawan – Bruneian entrepreneurs returned home yesterday after
visiting the 2nd Malaysia International Halal Showcase (MIHAS) 2005 in
Kuala Lumpur as well as various food and beverage factories in Johor.
The trip's organiser and Chairman of
Sapco (B) Sdn Bhd, Pg Shahminan Pg Hj Ismail, said that they saw more
than 500 booths from 17 countries, 18 of which were Brunei-based
exhibitors participating under the Ministry of Industry and Primary
Resources.
Themed "Repositioning the Global
Halal Business", MIHAS 2005 was considered the ultimate platform for
international buyers and sellers to congregate and explore their
options in food and beverages, cosmetics, fashion, pharmaceuticals,
publications, information technology as well as the Islamic capital
market and financial services.
Pg Shahminan explained that its
opening ceremony was officiated by Malaysian Prime Minister, Datuk
Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, who was represented by the Selangor
Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Mohamad Khir Toyo.
In his opening address, Datuk
Abdullah talked about the importance of authenticating Halal products
that should be traceable and meet world-class standards.
Pg Shahminan also revealed that the
adoption of a common MS1500 halal standard for OIC member nations was
announced at the exhibition. It will be the first of its kind.
He said that a new initiative was
being planned for MIHAS next year with two additional events, the KL
Halal Food Festival and three-day World Halal Forum, to be hosted
under the banner of Halal Malaysia Week in May next year. --
