International Halal Showcase Enriches Brunei Entrepreneurs

Bandar Seri Begawan – Bruneian entrepreneurs returned home yesterday after visiting the 2nd Malaysia International Halal Showcase (MIHAS) 2005 in Kuala Lumpur as well as various food and beverage factories in Johor.

The trip's organiser and Chairman of Sapco (B) Sdn Bhd, Pg Shahminan Pg Hj Ismail, said that they saw more than 500 booths from 17 countries, 18 of which were Brunei-based exhibitors participating under the Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources.

Themed "Repositioning the Global Halal Business", MIHAS 2005 was considered the ultimate platform for international buyers and sellers to congregate and explore their options in food and beverages, cosmetics, fashion, pharmaceuticals, publications, information technology as well as the Islamic capital market and financial services.

Pg Shahminan explained that its opening ceremony was officiated by Malaysian Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, who was represented by the Selangor Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Mohamad Khir Toyo.

In his opening address, Datuk Abdullah talked about the importance of authenticating Halal products that should be traceable and meet world-class standards.

Pg Shahminan also revealed that the adoption of a common MS1500 halal standard for OIC member nations was announced at the exhibition. It will be the first of its kind.

He said that a new initiative was being planned for MIHAS next year with two additional events, the KL Halal Food Festival and three-day World Halal Forum, to be hosted under the banner of Halal Malaysia Week in May next year. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
