Young Lawyer Dies As Car Goes Ablaze In Tutong
By Liza Mohd

Tutong - A 24-year-old lawyer, identified by Tutong Police Station as Karwana Balu, died Saturday afternoon when his car reportedly skidded off the road and caught fire at KM 48, Jalan Tutong.

According to the Tutong Fire Station, the vehicle driven by the deceased was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived at the scene after receiving the emergency call at 12.15pm.

Eight firefighters, led by Acting SSFS Tahir bin Hj Muktal, managed to bring the fire under control, which had spread to the nearby bushes, sparking a minor forest fire in a matter of minutes.

The firefighters used two jet hose units to extinguish the fire while police personnel also arrived at the scene to control the slow-moving traffic.

It is believed that the car driven by the deceased skidded off the road and caught fire with the deceased still at the wheels.

According to an eyewitness, the deceased could not be rescued as the fire broke out rapidly and the situation needed a professional firefighting team to extinguish the flames before the deceased could be rescued from the car.

The young lawyer was, however, trapped inside the burning car and was pronounced dead on arrival at the Tutong hospital. Police told the Bulletin that the cause of the fire is still under investigation. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
