Wijaya On The Way To Create
History
By Dannie Abu Basrah
Bandar Seri
Begawan - Wijaya FC is on the verge of becoming the first club
to win all three cups offered in the Shell Helix B-League competitions
with two of the cups already in the silverware shelf, the FA Cup won
in 2002 and the Shell Helix B League 2003 Cup.
This would be Wijaya FC's second
appearance in the Champions Cup after they went out second best to
DPMM FC, losing the cup clash 2-1, which was played at the Hassanal
Bolkiah National Stadium last year.
In an interview with Pg Elj Mohd
Muslimin bin Pg Hj Abd Momin, the Wijaya FC manager, at their training
ground at the Ong Sum Ping field yesterday, he said that it would be
an extra bonus for the team and the club itself if they win the clash
against ABDB, who are also a tough opponent to face as proven in their
previous games.
In addition, he also said that the
win could be a morale boost for his team which has a lot of young
players, in terms of experience and team spirit for the remaining
Premier 1 games.
Wijaya
FC will likely play their usual starting line-up with only their left
back, Shahruni being the only absentee who is nursing an injury he
obtained during the Premier I league game against QAF FC.
When asked about the man to watch for
the cup clash, the team's head coach, Lukman bin Hj Adanan responded
that it obviously would be Abg Norsillmy bin Abg Hj Taha who has been
banging goals for them this season being their current leading goal
scorer and Wijaya FC last season's top scorer.
One player who is really looking
forward to the match against the "army boys" is Wijaya FC 24-year-old
import goalie, Md Fahmi bin Md Isa whose previous clubs were Selangor
FC, Selangor Proton, Selangor MPPJ and Sabah before coming to the
Sultanate to gain more experience and also has represented Malaysia in
the youth teams.
The Manchester United fan wills him
hoping to be at his best form to deny his opponents and keep his team
in the game where a win could put Wijaya FC in the history book.
The team manager urged the Wijaya FC
supporters to come in large numbers to cheer the team towards making
history and also with high sporting spirit, to enjoy the cup clash and
be at their best behaviour. --
