Top Museums Official Talks About
US Trip

Begawan - Awg Bantong bin Antaran, Deputy Director of Museums
Department, yesterday spoke about his trip to the United States during
the "International Visitor Programme" from April 22nd to May 14th this
year.
Held at the Museum Discovery Hall in
Kota Batu, the talk was attended by Awg Haji Matassim bin Haji Jibah,
Director of Museums Department, officers and staff from the museum,
representatives from the American Embassy as well as other guests.

Bantong spoke of his experiences during the "International Visitor
Programme", a project participated by senior officers from museums
from seven countries, namely, Bahrain, Brunei Darussalam, Czech
Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Kenya and Nepal. Each country sent a
representative.
Sponsored by the US Government, the
project first took the officials to the US state of Utah, followed by
Tulsa, Los Angeles, New Orleans and Washington DC.
Among the programme's aims were to
enhance appreciation of the values of American culture shown through
its museums as well as to provide a wide overview of historical and
contemporary museums in the US.
The project also enabled the visitors
to take a closer look at the management approaches and techniques used
by the museums there.
Among the activities were trips to
museums, cultural institutions and parks, animal parks, historical
sites and buildings, preservation centres and arts galleries. The
participants held discussions with the senior officers at the places
they visited.
They also attended the 99th American
Museums Association annual meeting at the ICC, Los Angeles as well as
an expo on museums. --
