Malaysian Youth Fined $1,200 For Illegal Stay

Bandar Seri Begawan - A 16-year-old Malaysian youth was fined $1,200 or a month's imprisonment in default after pleading guilty to a charge of overstaying before the Bandar Magistrate's Court yesterday.

Zulkifli Ag Rautin admitted to the facts explained before Magistrate Dk Hjh Norismayanti by the Immigrations Prosecutor that the defendant had been suspected by police officers of being an illegal immigrant. He was examined at the compound of RIPAS Hospital at about 9.20 am two days ago.

Zulkifli's passport was found to be stamped with a visit pass that had expired on August 1, 2002.
