Brunei's Rare Flora At ICC

Begawan – Rare species of ornamental plants are now on display
at the International Convention Centre today.
Flowers displayed during the
competition will be put up for sale right after the opening ceremony
in the morning.
Potted plants, wild ferns, and
orchids, both local and imported, were among the flowers displayed and
judged yesterday.
The sumbui-sumbui or pitcher plant is
one of the local plants displayed here. These are plants of wild
origin and have medicinal uses.
These local orchids, known as tiger
orchids, are rare species which can only be found in the rainforest.
It can grow up to a height of eight feet.
Another plant on show is a type of
fern locally known as lukut.
This plant normally grows on tall
trees.
Judging of the flowers is based on
five criteria.

Norhadini Haji Saini, co-head of the flower competition, said the
public will be able to buy the flowers displayed here only after the
opening ceremony.
The exhibition is open to the public
until August 15, from 8am to 8pm.
