The 2nd Japanese Ambassador's Cup
football competition, which will start on August 23 at the Hassanal
Bolkiah Police Stadium, is in full swing with the handing-over
ceremony of the Ambassador's Cup at the Co-Curricular Education
Department yesterday.
On behalf of the Japanese Embassy,
Takeshi Mishima, the third secretary of the Japanese Embassy handed
over the cup to Awang Arsad bin Abd Adis, the Director of Department
of Co-Curricular Education.
Beside the Ambassador's Cup and
medals, the winning team will also get a Japanese National Team jersey
signed by all the members of the Japanese football national squad who
won the Asian Cup recently in Beijing.
During the ceremony, Awang Arsad said
his department is delighted to be able to organise the football
tournament with the cooperation from the Japanese Embassy.
A representative of the Japanese
Embassy, Keiko Soeda conveyed her gratitude to the Ministry of
Education for their effort in making the tournament a success and she
hopes the students will enjoy the games.
A total of 22 teams from secondary
schools and colleges of all four districts will be vying for the cup,
which was won by Perdana Wazir Secondary School last year.
The tournament is an annual project
organised by Co-Curricular Education to select talented student
players in preparation for major football competitions in the future.
