Philippine Embassy's 2nd donation
of books to UBD

Philippine Ambassador hands over a set
of books on the Philippines to the Vice Chancellor of UBD.
The Philippine Ambassador to Brunei,
Virginia H Benavidez, formally handed over a set of books to UBD's
Vice Chancellor Dr Hj Ismail Hj Duraman, at a book donation ceremony
held at the university's Information Communication Technology Centre
on Monday afternoon, said a press release.
In his welcoming remarks, Dr Hj
Ismail thanked the Philippine Embassy for its contribution, citing
that it was the second time, and expressed hope that the building up
of UBD Library's collection about the Philippines will be an ongoing
collaborative effort between them.
In her message, Ambassador Benavidez
said that she placed great importance in boosting the University
Library's collection, being the repository of knowledge as well as
ideas and an invaluable source of information about the Philippines
for students and the visiting public.
She assured the Vice Chancellor of
the Philippine Embassy's continuing support, specifically the sharing
and donation of books and information about the Philippines for the
University's students and visiting public.
The collection of books donated to
the University comprised readings on Philippine politics, history,
foreign policy, education, laws and jurisprudence, as well as some
general information materials on the Philippines.
Also in the collection were materials
on BIMP-EAGA, including a CD-ROM on the latest developments in
BIMP-EAGA and the Philippines Embassy as well as the Philippine
Department of Foreign Affairs.
Others present at the book donation
ceremony were Dr Hj Suhaimi Hj Abd Karim, Acting Director of Library;
Dr Diana PP Cheong, Director of the International Office; Hj Adanan Hj
Besar, Deputy Dean of the Sultan Haji Omar Ali Safuddien Institute of
Islamic Studies as well as some other University officials and staff.
Ambassador Benavidez was accompanied
by Third Secretaries and Vice Consuls Arlene Tullid-Magno and Jaime
Ramon T Ascalon as well as Information Attache Heidi Gardose.
