Bandar Seri Begawan - The Asean Youth delegates, who are in the country to attend the 11th Youth Day Meeting, visited TIBA Association Petrol Station located at Kg Salambigar in Muara yesterday afternoon.

Also present were TIBA Exco official committee members, officials from the Youth and Sports Department, Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports and BINA Shell and Awg. Haji Ismail bin Hj. Apong, Penghulu Mukim of Berakas B.

The visit was part of the delegation's field trip to have a closer look at the development and progress of the TIBA Association, one of the oldest Cooperative Association Petrol Stations in the country. The main business of TIBA Association is the running of petrol station and transportation.

The TIBA Association has been selected as one of the best and excellent associations in the country and has received several awards from the government as well as private sector.

The association was among the nine recipients awarded the Asean Youth Award 2004 at the Asean Youth Presentation ceremony of 11th Youth Day Meeting last Sunday.

It also received an award from the Brunei Shell Marketing last June 2004 in the Economy category for contributing towards the development of the country's economy. It was also awarded as one of the Best Petrol Stations throughout the country by Brunei Shell Marketing in 2001.

During the visit, the delegates were briefed by Haji Matassan bin Haji Bungso, Secretary of the association, on the progress and background of the petrol station.

He said the petrol station was officially opened in August 1981. It was renovated again in 1999. Today, it has a total of 586 members comprising 315 men and 271 women. Its operation hours are from 6.30 am to 9.30pm.

The Asean Youth delegates also had the opportunity of viewing a mini local fruit exhibition and tasted some local fruits that are not available in some of the Asean member countries.

The youth from Kg Salambigar performed traditional music performance (Gulingtangan).
