An interesting talk on turtle conservation and programmes under the National Turtle Management and Conservation Programme was presented at Sekolah Menengah Sufri Bolkiah Tutong last Tuesday.

The talk by officials from the Management and Conservation Section under the Fisheries Department was attended by students and teachers of the school.

Awg Hariel bin Hj Simpul from the Fisheries Department spoke of turtle watch and monitoring, hatching-release programme and the life-cycle of the turtles.

He said the department welcomed the cooperation and help of public volunteers in protecting the turtles, which are protected species under the CITES.

After the talk, the students and teachers viewed a photo exhibition on the turtles. Students also had chance to see, touch and play with live turtles the Fisheries officials brought to the school. Among the species on display were the Hawksbill and Green Olive Ridley turtles.
