Brunei Joins Asean Cultural Week
Celebration In Hanoi

Begawan - Brunei will be participating in the 2nd Asean Culture
Week to be held in Hanoi and Ha Long, Vietnam from August 6 to August
13 this year.
The Brunei delegation will be led by
Awg Mohd Amin bin BPKDP Hj Sirat, the Acting Special Duties Officer at
the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports.
Eighteen delegates representing
Brunei will also include 2 creative artists and 10 performing
artistes. The opening ceremony for the event will be held at the Hanoi
Opera House on the evening of August 8.
Dato
Paduka Hj Mahmud bin Hj Bakyr, the National Chairman of the Brunei
Asean Committee on Culture and Information, will also be attending the
festival.
A preview of the performances that
will be performed in Vietnam was held yesterday at the Ministry of
Culture Youth and Sports.
Working in the framework of projects
approved by Asean Committee on Culture and Information, the 2nd Asean
Culture Week carries the theme "Asean Arts - Tradition and Modernity".
It aims at introducing and honoring
special features of Asean Traditional Cultural Arts, which are
preserved and promoted in the context of modernisation and
globalisation.
A total of 150 artistes from all the
Asean countries will be participating in the event.
Some activities have been arranged
which included performing arts, visual arts, national costumes and
crafts exhibition.
The idea of organising the Asean
Culture Week in different Asean countries was penned during the Asean
Summit in Brunei in 1999. It aims at introducing special culture
features of the regional nations, promote friendship, solidarity and
close cooperation among the Asean people. At the same time it aims at
enhancing awareness about Asean of the countries outside the region.
The success of these activities would
help raise cultural, political and diplomatic status of the Asean
member countries within and outside the region. --
