Brunei Sultan Flies To Kedah For Funeral

Bandar Seri Begawan - His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah, the Sultan of Brunei yesterday morning arrived in Alos Star , Kedah in Northern Malaysia for the funeral ceremony of the late Sultanah of Kedah, Her Royal Highness Tuanku Hajah Bahiyah Ibni Almarhum Tuanku Abdul Rahman.

Accompanying His Majesty was His Royal Highness Pengiran Hj Sufri Bolkiah. The late Sultanah of Kedah, Her Royal Highness Bahiyah Ibni Almarhum Tuanku Abdul Rahman passed away last Tuesday afternoon at Istana Kuala Cegar, Alor Star at the age of 73 years old.

The ceremony yesterday morning began with an Lie-In-State at the Dewan Penghadapan Istana Anak Bukit and followed by the Jenazah prayer at Istana Anak Bukit. The late Sultanah of Kedah was laid to rest later in the afternoon at the Royal Mausoleum in Langar.

Among the state dignitaries paying their last respects were His Majesty The Yang Dipertuan Agong of Malaysia and their Royal Highness State Rulers.

The late Sultanah of Kedah was born on 24th August 1930 at Sri Menanti, Negeri Sembilan. Her Royal Highness was the eldest daughter of the Yang Dipertuan Besar and the Tuanku Ampuan Negeri Sembilan, the first Yang Dipertuan Agong of Malaysia.
