Allen Lai Wins Queen Elizabeth II
Chevening Scholarship

Begawan - Twelve Bruneian students have been awarded the Queen
Elizabeth II Chevening Scholarships since it was first introduced in
Brunei in 1998.
This includes two who are still
studying in the United Kingdom. The scholarship is jointly funded by
the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in London and in the case of
Brunei by BSP, BLNG, CFBT, Cable and Wireless and MBDA.
Another six locals have received the
scholarship for the year 2003/2004. The announcement on the
scholarship was made last Tuesday night at a reception at the British
High Commissioner's residence in Jalan Kota Batu.
Present at the function was Pengiran
Abdul Qawi, the Deputy Chairman of QAF Brunei.
The recipients were Awang Allen Kuan
An Lai who was awarded with the Queen Elizabeth II BSP Chevening
Scholarship. He will read a Master of Marketing degree at the
University of West England Bristol. Allen works as a Marketing
Executive at Asia Inc. Forum and as one of RTB's news presenter.
The other three recipients included
Dayang Siti Salwah Binti Haji Saim who received the Queen Elizabeth
The Second BLNG Chevening Scholarship. She will be taking up a master
degree in marketing the Kingston University.
Awang
Mohammad Saiful Bin Haji Omar, was awarded the Queen Elizabeth The
Second CFBT Chevening Scholarship. He will be undergoing a Master of
Science course in Multimedia and Internet Computing at Lloughborough
University and Awang Subandi Jamis who received the Queen Elizabeth
The Second MBDA Chevening Scholarship. He will undergo a Master of
Science course in Information and Knowledge Management at Loughborough
University.
The four will commence their studies
next month.
Two more recipients who will start
their course in January 2004 are Awang Lim Ming Soon and Awang Haji
Jailani Bin Haji Buntar. They are awarded The Queen Elizabeth The
Second Cable and Wireless Cheveing Scholarship. Both of them will take
a master degree in Communications Management at Coventry University.
Currently there are 2,000 Chevening
