Indon Woman Behind Bars For Overstaying

Bandar Seri Begawan - A 28-year-old Indonesian woman was sentenced to three months imprisonment yesterday after she pleaded guilty to remaining in this country unlawfully for 11 months and 22 days following the expiry of her Visit Pass.

Lailatul Badariyah appeared in the Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Lailatul Zubaidah. She was caught by the officers from Royal Brunei Police Force on suspicion of being an illegal immigrant, the court heard yesterday.

The Immigration Prosecutor told the court the defendant was caught at a house No. 293, Simpang 291, Kampong Manggis Dua in Jalan Muara early yesterday morning.

Upon examination of her passport, the defendant’s Visit Pass was found to have been expired since August 28 last year.

Investigation revealed the defendant arrived in Brunei Darussalam on August 9 last year and was granted a Visit Pass which valid till August 12 the same year. Ever since she is still in this country until the date of her arrest.  -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
