Bandar Seri
Begawan - Principals and headmasters of schools are urged to
encourage students and pupils to be interested in scout activities as
part of efforts to hinder them from being involved in negative
pursuits.
The call was made yesterday morning
at a gathering of the Brunei Darussalam Scouts Association that was
attended by principals and headmasters of colleges, secondary and
primary schools of zone one in the Brunei Muara district.
The Minister of Culture, Youth and
Sports, Pehin Dato Hussin was present in his capacity as the Chief of
Scouts. The purpose of the gathering was to better introduce the aim
and activities of the Scouts Association and to induce schools to
establish their own scout movement and to increase the number of its
members, which to date stands at more than 2,500.
Scouting activities such as camping
and hiking are frequently organised during school holidays.
Participants are also involved in informal meetings at schools and run
community services.
Similar gatherings will be held on
this month 16 for Zones Three and Four and on the August 23 for Zones
Five and Six. Yesterday morning's event took place at the Brunei
Darussalam Scouts Association in Gadong. -- Courtesy of Radio Television Brunei
