Dr Pg Amir Mohd Yussof.
A delegation from Brunei Darussalam
will be attending the 1st Malay Education Congress in Kuala Lumpur,
Malaysia from September 1 to 2.
The delegation will be led by Dr Pg
Amir Mohd Yussof bin Pg Abbas Al-Haj, the Managing Director cum
advisor of Nusa Laila Puteri School here.
The congress will be officiated by
the Malaysian Prime Minister, Dato' Seri Dr Mahathir bin Mohammad, at
the Putra World Trade Centre in Kuala Lumpur.
The event is organised by the West
Malaysian Malay Teachers Union (KGMMB) with the cooperation of
Kumpulan Melayu Prihatin or the Caring Malay Group.
A total of six working papers will be
tabled at the congress, written by education specialists from West
Malaysia.
Meanwhile, Dr Pg Amir feels the
congress is important to improve the quality of education of the Malay
people for the success of Malay generation in the future.
He said it is important for the Malay
people to acquire more knowledge because the amount of knowledge the
people have now could not prevent them from being cheated.
He was referring to the large number
of the Malay people who participated in pyramid schemes, which have
been proven that those who participated will in the end be the losers.
He said the Malay people must realise
the amount of knowledge they possess is still limited and therefore
they should try to gather new knowledge through participating in
knowledge-laden seminars and events.
"The amount of knowledge we
obtain by undergoing college degrees is not enough to save us from
becoming gullible persons.
"It is our own initiative to
improve our knowledge by attending knowledge functions to overcome our
limitations," he said.
Dr Pg Amir said he is also worried to
see the trend of the modern generation who loves to waste time playing
computer games and chatting until late at nights and sometimes into
the early mornings.
"The nation will not go forward
with a young generation who sleep late and wake up late.
"Such trends of time wasting
must be stopped if we want our country to move forward," he said.
Dr Pg Amir and his delegation will
fly to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia today.
