Abdul Aziz Juned and Muharram Piah, Brunei Darussalam's
ambassador to the Sultanate of Oman were also present.
Their Majesties then
proceeded to the Special Room at Al-Alain Palace for an
official meeting, according to a statement from Brunei's
Prime Minister's Office.
At the meeting, the two
leaders discussed bilateral concerns and expressed
satisfaction with the development of ties between the
two countries, whilst agreeing to work together to
further strengthening cooperation.
Similar to the visit to
Kuwait, His Majesty the Sultan and YangDi-Pertuan of
Brunei Darussalam's visit to Oman is aimed at enhancing
ties between the two nations as well as opening "wider
horizons for bilateral cooperation" in the interests of
the people of both countries, according to ONA.
Yesterday, His Majesty
departed from Kuwait at the Kuwait International
Airport. Prior to the departure, the customary doe
selamat was read by the State Mufti at the Bayan Palace.
His Majesty also held a
brief meeting with His Highness Amir of Kuwait, Sheikh
Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah at the palace.
At the airport, His
Highness the Amir along with Crown Prince of Kuwait,
Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-
Sabah, Deputy Chief of
the National Guard Sheikh Mishaal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah
as well as members of the royal family and officials of
the Kuwaiti government were on hand to bid His Majesty a
safe journey. Brunei's non-resident ambassador to
Kuwait, Pg Dato Paduka Hj Jaberudin Pg Hj Mohd Salleh
was also present. Prior to taking off, ' His Majesty
received the royal salute from the Amiri Guard.
According to Radio
Televisyen Brunei (RTB) yesterday, His Majesty's state
visit to Kuwait reaffirmed the good relations which
exist between the two countries. The two leaders also
recognised areas of cooperation during the visit, RTB
reported.
Brunei established
diplomatic relations with Oman on March 24, 1984,
following the Sultanate's resumption of full
independence. Brunei set up its embassy in the Omani
capital of Muscat on February 1, 1990 and Oman set up
its embassy in Bandar Seri Begawan on August 25, 1986,
according to the website of the Ministry of Foreign
Affairs and Trade.
Since February 1, 2000,
both countries implemented a visa exemption agreement on
reciprocal basis for visits not exceeding 14 days. "Both
sides further agreed to extend the duration to 30 days
during the seventh bilateral consultative meeting on
March 14, 2001 with implementation in Brunei Darussalam
on June 1, 2001, and in Oman on July 7, 2003," the
website said.
