France Exports More To Brunei
By James Kon
Bandar Seri
Begawan - Brunei Darussalam and France have enjoyed a stable
trade volume worth BND $24 million over the past few years.
This was revealed by Mr Jean-Marie
Demange, the Minister Counsellor cum Head of the Economic
Departments for Southeast Asia of French Embassy, during his
presentation on "Invest in France: Economic Updates" at Sheraton
Utama Hotel on Tuesday. The talk was organised by the French
Bruneian Business Association.
"France exports more than we import
from Brunei Darussalam," he said. France exports more than BND$20
million worth of products, while it only imports BND$4 million worth
of products from Brunei, he added.
The run down of exports from France
to Brunei are spare parts for planes and cars (worth around BND$1
million); BND$2 million worth of electronics and consumer goods, and
BND $7 million of intermediately products. The rest are
pharmaceutical products and equipments.
Meanwhile, France imports $4
million worth of metal from Brunei. When asked which sectors in
France have the most potential for Brunei investors, he said: "There
are a lot of opportunities in France especially in the service
sectors like banking and logistics."
"France would like to continue its
cooperation with Brunei," he said, adding that the country already
has TOTAL in the Sultanate.
As language is considered as one of
the main concerns of doing business in France, he reassured
Bruneians that it was not true that the French people only know how
to speak their own language. "Thirty to 40 per cent of the people in
the city speak English," he said.
In term of economy stability,
France is the world's 5th largest economic power. The country is
also the world's 4th biggest exporter of services and the world's
5th biggest exporter of goods. -- Courtesy of Borneo
