P-EWI Donates Cotton Bags For
Earth Day
By James Kon
Bandar Seri
Begawan - To commemorate Earth Day, Local HSE Consultant, P-EWI
Brunei donated 1,500 reusable dye-free natural cotton bags to the
Department of Environment, Parks and Recreation for its ‘Bring Your
Own Bag' campaign in a ceremony held at The Empire Hotel and Country
Club yesterday afternoon.
The donation was part of an
initiative to persuade local shops and shoppers to cut down on the
usage of plastic bags.
According to P-EWI Brunei Managing
Director, Stewart Olney, "Living to its name of `Adobe of Peace',
Brunei has an unique irreplaceable bio-diversity.
"We have to preserve and build on
this unique biodiversity, as well as continue on the superb record
of environmental conservation in Brunei. We cannot bury ourselves
and our wildlife under a mountain of plastic bags.
"What we are doing today through
the donation of the reusable environmentally friendly shopping bags
to replace the disposable plastic bags, is just a tiny start, and we
hope it will encourage the public to act more environmentally
conscientious."
On hand to receive the donation
from P-EWI was the Head of Environmental Management and Planning
Section at the Department of Environment, Parks and Recreation,
Martinah Hj Tamit. -- Courtesy of Borneo
