RBAF Chief Gets Medal Of Honour

Bandar Seri Begawan - Top Brunei military official has been awarded a military decoration by the President of the Philippines, Gloria Arroyo, last Friday in Quezon City.

Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General Dato Paduka Seri Hj AwgHalbi Hj Md Yussof, Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF), was awarded the prestigious decoration, Philippines Legion of Honour - The Grand Officer, during the 2008 First Assembly of the Association of General and Flag Officers (AGFO) Inc. Fellowship Meeting at the Tejeros Hall in Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City.

The first ever Grand Officer (`Marangal na Pinuno') medal to be awarded since its establishment in 2003 was given in recognition of the significant roles that the RBAF Commander has played in enhancing the long-standing ties between the RBAF and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).

Under his leadership and guidance, professional interactions between both armed forces have grown in scope and depth.

The RBAF and the AFP engage in a wide range of bilateral exercises and professional exchanges, which serve to enhance mutual understanding and camaraderie.

The RBAF also have personnel involved in the International Monitoring Team (IMT) in Mindanao since 2004. Among those present during the investiture ceremony was Amaleen Abd Rahman Teo, the Brunei Darussalam Ambassador to the Republic of the Philippines.

Pehin Dato Hj Awang Halbi was in the Philippines for a four-day working visit from April 14 to 18, 2008.

During his visit, he also called on the Secretary of National Defence and his counterpart, General Hermogenes C Esperon Jr. -- Courtesy of The Brunei Times
