Minister On Working Visit To
Religious Office
Bandar Seri
Begawan - Minister of Religious Affairs Pehin Jawatan Luar
Pekenna Raja Dato Seri Utama Dr Ustaz Hj Awg Mohd Zain bin Hj
Serudin Saturday made a working visit to the Tutong Religious
Affairs.
On hand to welcome the minister
were Tutong District Head Religious Officer Hj Mohd Zain bin Hj
Muntol and personnel from the Tutong Religious Office.
The minister visited the
Administration Section, Mosque Affairs, Enforcement Unit, Halal Food
Control Unit and the Aqidah Control Section, where he held
discussions with the heads of departments.
The construction of the Tutong
Religious Affairs Office began on May 9, 1968 and was officially
opened on November 25, 1971 by His Majesty the Sultan and Yang
Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam.
The office was at first managed by
a head who held the position of District Kadhi until May 26, 2001.
With the enforcement of the Syariah
Court Act on May 26, 2001, the post of District Kadis was abolished
and replaced with the Syariah Court Judge position.
Since then, the administration
housed in the Tutong Religious Affairs Office was divided into two
sections - the Administration for the Tutong Religious Affairs under
the Ministry of Religious Affairs, which was led by the District
Head Religious Officer; and the Syariah Lower Court Administration,
Prime Minister's Office, headed by the Assistant Registrar of the
Lower Syariah Court.
The working visit was aimed at
offering a closer look at the administration and to identify the
current developments of the Tutong Religious Office.
Currently there are 623 personnel
working in this office. The Tutong District, meanwhile, has 24
mosques, two suraus and two religious halls.
