Brunei, New Zealand Sign Medical
And Health Pact
Bandar Seri
Begawan - Brunei is collaborating with New Zealand to train
local health professionals in various areas of specialisation and
expand the possibility of more training opportunities, following the
recent signing of an agreement between the Ministry of Health and
University of Otago.
The University of Otago will "play
the role as a strong focal point to future linkages" between the
Health Ministry to other training institutions in New Zealand,
according to a press release from the Ministry of Health.
The university's long history of
milestone achievements, in terms of quality training, education and
as a leading institution in clinical researching, will be able to
offer Brunei the required niche, it said.
Deputy Minister of Health Pehin
Orang Kaya Pekerma Laila Diraja Dato Paduka Hj Hazair Hj Abdullah
was in New Zealand to sign the agreement during his visit from April
8-12.
He also met local medical students
during a visit to the Royal Brisbane Hospital in Australia. Two cohorts who are medical and
dental graduates, have since returned home and working in their
sub-specialties under the ministry. Currently there are a total of
57 Bruneian students in Dunedin, Wellington and Christchurch. -- Courtesy of
