Nursing College To Merge With UBD Medical Institute

Bandar Seri Begawan - Plans to merge the Pengiran Anak Puteri Rashidah Sa'adatul Bolkiah College of Nursing and the Institute of Medicine, Universiti Brunei Darussalam are currently under way.

Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Rashidah Sa'adatul Bolkiah in a sabda at the 14th Convocation of the Nursing College, said that the merging of the two institutions will give the college the opportunity to further develop as a more well-known institution, of high quality, established and competitive in the nursing and midwifery.

Her Royal Highness, who is also the Patron of the College of Nursing, believes that the effort is a positive step undertaken by the Ministry of Education to develop a a stronger educational sector of higher quality.

"This development will enable the nursing college to strengthen further its main role to meet the country's need for committed, professional' and high quality nurses, midwifery and health workers," Her Royal Highness said.

In her sabda, Her Royal Highness also stressed the need for relevant authorities to pay due attention to ensuring graduates of the college get the opportunity of working, in any health institution in Brunei and if necessary overseas.

The college patron also touched upon the need to strengthen the development of teaching staff at the college.

"The development of educators should be given due attention by assimilating the best and relevant teaching and learning techniques and methods which meet international standards, stressed Her Royal Highness.

Her Royal Highness suggested that to promote a better and healthier lifestyle among members of the community, a bigger role is needed to be taken by nurses in their studies, tasks and responsibilities.

"Nurses play a crucial role in handling health issues such as cardiovascular problems, high blood pressure, diabetes and many other chronic diseases that affect health and lifestyle, Her Royal Highness stated.

Her Royal Highness ended her sabda by advising the graduates to strive for continuous life-long learning and self development and to never stop pursuit of knowledge and to improve efficiency in their chosen profession. The convocation was held at Chancellor Hall, UBD yesterday morning and saw 106 graduands receiving their diplomas. -- Courtesy of The Brunei Times
