Immigration Officers Urged To
Learn From Past Mistakes
By Syazwan Sadikin
Bandar Seri
Begawan - New immigration officers should learn from the
mistakes of former officers to be able to serve the public better,
Sa Bali Abas, director-general of Public Service Department,
yesterday said.
This came as 13 new immigration
officers were briefed yesterday at the Public Service Department on
their roles as public servants.
Sa Bali also stressed to the new
recruits about the importance of being articulate in carrying out
their duties.
"Person to person contact is
important," said Sa Bali.
He said it is a necessity for public
servants to offer quality service as the public is dependent on
government agencies to provide official documents and services.
Also during his opening remarks, Sa
Bali highlighted the need for immigration officers to carry out
their duties accurately and to have discipline.
By offering excellent service,
immigration officers benefit by adding' credibility and trust in
government agencies.
"One of our main concerns is making
sure the stamps made out to foreign passport are properly processed,
to ensure that dubious person will not slip away easily," said Md
Hazwan Abd Rahim, one of the new immigration officer.
The Public
Service Department is the authority on service regulation and is
also the agency controlling the benefits and facilities offered to
government servants such as housing and pension.
Yesterday's visit is part of the
department's efforts at disseminating information about its roles
and functions as a central agency, which controls among others,
service regulations.
"Though at the moment, the recruits
are learning more on theory, but when their course ends, they will '
experience people to people basis," said Pg Matusin Pg Anak Hj Abd
Rahman, immigration officer.
The training induction started on
April 14 and ends on April 29. The recruits will then be assigned to
their new posts. -- Courtesy of
