HM Gifts 112 Homes Under National
Housing Scheme

Begawan- His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei
Darussalam yesterday gave away 112 more homes under the National
Housing Scheme.
The monarch bestowed 20 recipients
with keys to type `D' homes in Kg Rimba at a ceremony at the Pehin
Datu Seri Maharaja Mentiri Secondary School Hall, which also saw 92
recipients presented with keys to their respective terrace houses in
Kg Mentiri.
"I am very happy and grateful to His Majesty for
bestowing ' us with such a gift," said Arman Hj Ahmad, who inherited
the house from his late mother, Hjh Maimunah Tahir. She applied for
the housing scheme 15 years ago.
"Thank God for His Majesty's gift,
and thank God for his visit," said retired Radio Television Brunei (RTB)
sound engineer Hi Esmit Hj Mat Yassin. He applied in 1984, and only
moved in January this year.
Following the ceremony, His Majesty
toured the school grounds. The monarch then visited the homes of the
National Housing Scheme recipients in Kg Mentiri and Kg Lambak Kanan
as well as business establishments in various areas of the district

"I am delighted and happy with His
Majesty's visit, and I express my heartfelt thanks to our generous
ruler who has done so much for this country," said Pg Sharifudin Pg
Rendah, who works at the Ministry of Defence. He presented a
pesambah to the monarch in the form of a small tongkat, which he
said he made himself.
Lt Colonel Hj Md Doon Hj Mohamad, a
recipient of a land lot under the housing scheme, was "very proud"
to have the monarch visit his residence in Kg Lambak. The Commanding
Officer of the Royal Brunei Land Force's 1st Battalion moved into
his residence in June last year.
His Majesty's visit to the
recently-opened Giant Hypermarket in Rimba attracted a large crowd
of shoppers, who were surprised at the sight, of the monarch
strolling into the food court flanked by his entourage of ministers
and senior government officials.
Armed with their mobile phones and
cameras, the crowd swarmed around His Majesty and wasted no chances
for photo opportunities and shook hands with the monarch as he went
on a tour of the hypermarket.
The general manager of Giant, Abdul
Latip Isnin, said he was "honoured" to have the monarch visit the
hypermarket.
His Majesty also visited the Aneka Ria food market in
Kg Rimba, the Ikan Teluk Mewah Co-operative petrol Station in Kg
Mentiri, seafood crackers producer Seri Pekatan in Lambak Kanan
industrial area and the Serbaneka Hama supermarket in Kg Tungku. -- Courtesy of The
