PRS Course For School Counsel

Begawan - Over 70 full-time counsellors and PRS guidance
teachers from various government secondary schools across the
country participated in a "Peer Group Helper" (PRS) course.
The three-day course, held annually
by the Counselling and Career Guidance Section, Department of
Schools, Ministry of Education, was launched yesterday at the Civil
Services Department in Rimba.
"This is an annual project by the
ministry to share the concept of proper training for all PRS
members. This year, the trainingjs held for three consecutive days
by five speakers and features a more systematic and structured
approach to training counsellors and PRS guidance teachers for all
government secondary schools in the district," said Dr Ee Ah Meng,
speaker and head facilitator of the PRS course.
During the course, participants
will listen to talks by Cikgu Hj Mustapa bin Hj Masri, Cikgu Hjh
Rokayah bte Hj Tawe, Cikgu Pg Omar bin Pg Hj Othman, Dr Ee Ah Meng
and Cikgu Hj Haji bin Hj Othman.
Among the topics that will be
covered are Theory, Philosophy and Concept of PRS, Use of Log Book,
Development of Adolescence, Aspects of Basic Counselling and its
Skills (Philosophy, Ethics and Procedures), as well as Basic
Communication Skills and Approach Skills.
The course aims to expose the
importance of skill training for all PRS, develop a networking
system for the activities of the counselling unit, to channel the
aspiration of the Counselling and Career Guidance Section to student
heads and establish PRS Clubs in schools. -- Courtesy of Borneo
