By Azaraimy HH
Bandar Seri
Begawan - SMARTER Brunei, a leading centre for autism in
Brunei, set up by parents of autistic children, received two split
air-condition units for the centre's new extension room in
Sengkurong.
IDS Sdn Bhd presented the
air-condition units to SMARTER as donations to do what they could
for society, the company told the Bulletin.
Meanwhile, SMARTER Brunei hopes to
enter the Brunei Autistic Centre for Adults (BACA) by next month.
Its President, Malai Hj Abdullah Malai Hj Othman, said that SMARTER
is optimistic about the future, which is not just to care for
autistic people, but also to provide a platform where the autistics
can train themselves to be independent.
Malai
Hj Abdullah said, "That's why we are planning to set up companies,
where the manpower will comprise autistic people, so that they can
have jobs."
He said at the moment, they are at
the planning stage to set up three companies, handling services for
airconditioners, motor vehicles and premise cleaning.
"These
businesses will be headed by parents to make sure that the
management understands and cares for these autisitic employees.
"Other businesses in mind include
laundry services.
"The centre is not stagnant, in fact, it is
growing, the children are growing into adults, and we soon need to
provide them not only with the required skills but actual jobs." -- Courtesy of Borneo
