Blocked Drainage System Wreaks Flood Havoc

Bandar Seri Begawan - Blocked drainage system due to overgrown grass along Jalan Mulaut-Limau Manis is one of the causes of floods in the area.

One of the victims, Awg Hj Lamit Rakit from Kg Batu Ampar, said floods hit the area often and his residence has been flooded as many as eight times.

According to Awg Hj Lamit, the cause of the flood is blocked drains, which have not been properly attended to.

The Public Works Department last cleaned up the area in December last year, after the Bulletin reported in October. The department has not conducted any cleaning activity since then.

Meanwhile, Dyg Fatimah Mudim has expressed her disappointment over the poor drainage system, which damaged her home during last Monday's floods. The water level rose to 0.3m and she was forced to call the Fire and Rescue Department to help her clean her home.

The villagers hope the relevant authorities will act soon to avoid recurrence of flash floods in the area. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
