Baiduri Bank Gets Top Nod

Bandar Seri Begawan - The Baiduri Bank Credit Administration Department was yesterday presented with the prestigious IS09001:2000 Certificate during a ceremony held at the Rizqun International Hotel.

Present to witness the auspicious ceremony were Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Finance cum guest of honour Dato Paduka Awang Haji Ali bin Haji Apong and 100 guests.

In his welcoming speech, Baiduri Bank General Manager Pierre Imhof said, "This afternoon's event marks yet another milestone in Baiduri Bank's 14-year history and adds to the long list of prestigious awards, accolades and certificates proudly displayed on the walls of the bank today.

"Having attained the ISO 9001 certification bears testimony that our Credit Administration Department (CAD) has fulfilled the various requirements to meet internationally accepted standards for management systems as defined by the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO).

"Winning international recognition proves, once again, that Baiduri Bank is continually improving its products and services to better serve its customers and the Brunei community," he added.

The CAD is the second unit within the bank group to have achieved this certification. CAD joins Baiduri Finance - which first obtained the ISO certification in 2003 - as the only two Brunei organisations within the Banking and Finance sector in Brunei certified to ISO 9001.

There are roughly 60 organisations in Brunei that currently hold ISO 9001 certification.

The Baiduri Bank Credit Administration Department was certified to ISO 9001:2000 last November. The certification audit was carried out by Moody International Certification Malaysia, an organisation accredited by UK Accreditation service (UKAS).

"Baiduri Bank is this year focusing more on organisational and product development in order to stay relevant in today's competitive financial services industry, Mr Imhof said.

The bank's plan this year includes enhancing the customer service level. It has already implemented several measures with this goal in mind. By having standardised procedures and established standards, Baiduri Bank aims to maintain a consistently high level of quality in their products and services.

"With the eight ISO principles centred on customer focus, leadership, approach, employee involvement, process approach, system approach, continual improvement, mutually beneficial relationship with suppliers and factual approach to decision making, it is not surprising that management gurus the world over recognise and recommend the ISO 9001 programme as a platform for good corporate governance," he added.

Mr Imhof later congratulated CAD Head Cynthia Chong and her dedicated team for the success in gaining this internationally recognised certification, adding that the success would not have been possible without the guidance and encouragement given by Head of Operations Andrew Young.

On hand to present the certificate to Pierre Imhof and Andrew Young was Chin Miew Lim, the KMN, General Manager of Moody International Certification (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd.

Also on the guest list were Certification management Board of Moody International Certification Malaysia Chairman Admiral Tan Sri Dato Seri Ilyas Hj Din, heads of departments, Ministry of Finance officials, customers and bank associates. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
