SMALHAB Students Leave For Debate
Competition In Singapore

Begawan - Four students from Sekolah Menengah Arab Laki-Laki
Hassanal Bolkiah (SMALHAB) will represent Brunei in Asean Arabic
Debating Competition in Singapore on April 17 and 18 and the final
round on April 20.
The four students - Nazerul Wafiq
bin Hj Mohd Hussein, Hafizah bte Yahya, Ahmad Khurshid Fahmi bin Hj
Abd Qadir and Siti Nurul Munirah bte Hj Awg Jumat - left for
Singapore yesterday and are, accompanied by Ustaz Hj Kaharuddin bin
Mohd Ali, head of delegation, and Ustaz Ak Hj Md Shahrin bin Pg Hj
Shamsuddin as coach.
The four will compete against representatives
from Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia.
This year nine teams are
participating in the event. Among the objectives of the competition
are to intensify the friendship between members of Asean competing
teams, consolidate the confidence in public speaking among
participants, highlight the educational bonds and strengthen the
will to learn from each other, portray and establish team building
among Asean teams and encourage the use of the Arabic language and
its application in Arabic schools.
The competition is organised by Wak
Tanjung School and this is the second time SMALHAB is participating.
