Minister Calls For Manpower Skills
Development

Begawan - The Minister of Development spelt out that the main
challenge facing his ministry in its effort to realise its vision
and become an `Organisation of Choice' is how to develop the skills
according to the needs of the individual and the organisation.

Mudim Dato Paduka Hj Bakar believes that if they can overcome this
challenge, the Ministry of Development will become an `Organisation
of First Choice', in executing physical development of the nation
and all that is peripheral towards the development of the country.
Speaking during the launch of the
ministry of Development's newly launched human resource management
system for the 21st century, HR21, yesterday, Pehin Dato Awg Hj
Abdullah voiced out his expectations from the ministry in terms of
human Resource.
"I would like to see each member of
this ministry to be amongst the best and possess the skills needed
in the professional field and the technical specialisation in line
with the ministry's reputation as the largest technical organisation
within the government," said the minister.
"I have the utmost confidence that
the heads of department, senior officers and members of staff will
rise up to this challenge, and seriously work towards achieving the
means to an end."
In the speech he also laid out the
main values and characteristics which fall under three main
categories: attitude, skills and knowledge. The minister feels that
at various stages of ones' career development they will be called
upon in various ways.
"As a person excels in their
career, the three components fill in the reliance towards the
knowledge bank lessens, however the need for certain skills is
increasing, particularly in managing work, making decisions,
managing people,. communication and leadership skills," said the
minister.
"As such the appropriate focus must
be given towards the development of these skills or expertise," he
added.
