27 Take Part In Physics Olympiad

Begawan - Twenty-seven students have been selected to
participate in the first-ever National Physics Olympiad organised by
the Science, Technology and Environment Partnership (Step),
yesterday.
According to Hj Fadzil Hj Md Salleh,
an officer of Step, the Olympiad is one of the centre's long term
programmes, which is hoped will become an annual event. He said although the students
participating in the event were mostly consists of selected sixth
form student, future olympiad would include those in other levels of
education.
"Though we are merely testing the waters at the moment,
from what we learn from today, we will be able to make adjustments
and develop the programme further," said Hj Fadzil.
He added that the best five
students will be selected to be trained and further develop their
skills for the possibility of them participating in the
International Olympiad.
The objectives of the Olympiad are
to develop students' talent and further interest in Physics while
enhancing better understanding for the students on concepts learned
in school. In addition, the Olympiad is an
opportunity for students to explore more on the applications of
Physics and motivate students in developing their intellectual
capacity and skills in the subject.
The 27 participants were
representatives of seven learning institution: the Maktab Sains
Paduka Seri Begawan Sultan, Maktab Duli Pengiran Muda Al-Muhtadee
Billah, Sixth Form Centre Berakas, Hassanal Bolkiah Arabic Secondary
School for Boys, Jerudong International School and Sekolah Menengah
