16 Institut Tahfiz Students To
Take Diploma In Malaysia
By Norizan Murshid
Bandar Seri
Begawan - Three officers from the Malaysian Islamic
Development Department of Darul Quran Jakim yesterday interviewed 16
students of Institut Tahfiz Al-Quran Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah (ITQSHHB)
who applied to join its threeyear diploma course for the session
2008 to 2011.
The applicants comprising eight
male and eight female students from ITQSHHB are currently in the
Lower Sixth form and received their Religious Education Certificate
last year. The interview session was held at the institute's library
in Jalan Tutong. Selected students will spend three years in Kuala
Lumpur, taking a diploma course in Tahfiz Al-Quran Wal-Qiraat.
This marks the third intake of
Bruneian students for the course. The students said that they were
looking forward to study in Malaysia. "We hope to continue our
studies at Darul Quran Jakim and to further our education, doing
another three-year degree course at the Al-Azhar University in
Cairo," one of them said.
The students entered ITQSHHB six
years ago after passing their Primary Certificate of Education exams
with flying colours. Aside from attending classes at the
secondary level, they were required to memorise the Quran, which
some of them managed to do after only a few years at the institute. -- Courtesy of Borneo
