By Malai FadleyRizal

Bandar Seri Begawan - A Malaysian, who attempted to smuggle 270.96 litres of diesel out of the country last month, was recently slapped with a $1,000 fine. If he fails to pay the fine, he will be jailed for a month.

Tiang Kwong Teck, 44, was caught at the Kuala Lurah Customs Control Post on the morning of March 1, 2008.

The fuel was found hidden inside the defendant's vehicle. The court was told that he had attempted to smuggle the fuel out of the country without first declaring it. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
