BSP Exhibition On Health Awareness
By Liza Mohd
Bandar Seri
Begawan - The three-day exhibition 'Health Zone' in Seria's-Oil
and Gas Discovery Centre (OGDC) aims to educate the public on the
benefits of leading a balanced lifestyle.
"Healthy lifestyle values
in school children must be encouraged from a very early age," said BSP Managing Director Dr Grahaeme Henderson, who launched it
yesterday.
"Providing health care to 3,800
employees from BSP, BSM and BST along with their families is a key
priority for their companies. If the employees are healthy, they
will be able to lead more fulfilling professional lives while
contributing far more effectively to their respective organisations.
"BSP invests hugely in providing
first class primary health care services and facilities through the
Panaga Health Centre and therefore -constantly expand and upgrade
our medical and health care services.
"BSP offers the best incentives to
facilitate professional development of the people who dedicate their
lives towards looking after our health namely the doctors, nurses
and other health care workers. And it is also expanding the range
of medical and health care benefits to employees and their
respective families by increasing the reimbursement of specialist
medical services at JPMC; extension of medical treatment for
employees' dependants from 18 to 25 years old and making basic
dental services free of charge at Panaga Health Centre.
"The second thrust of the employees'
health care strategy focuses on providing healthy lifestyle support
and intervention programmes known as HLP. There is a broad range of
HLP conducted by the health centre which includes voluntary health
risk screening for employees, educational and counselling services
to check obesity, discourage smoking and HLP sporting activities. All departments are able to draw on
a budget allocated by the company to organise HLP events on a
regular basis.
"Another activity which has become
increasingly popular is the 5.5km fun run called Langkah Silaht to
complement the efforts driven by the health centre.
"The third health care strategy is
geared towards extending and sharing the benefits of its in-house
health care programmes with the wider community by actively
contributing towards various initiatives by the Ministry of Health
aimed at improving public health care in the country.
"For example, the company is
partnering with the Ministry of Health in the establishment of the
national health promotion centre which will play a significant role
in driving the government's efforts to combat lifestyle related
diseases amongst the people of Brunei Darussalam.
"Meanwhile at the district level,
the doctors and nurses at Panaga Health Centre work closely with
counterparts from Suri Seri Begawan hospital in KB and supported the
work of the hospital by contributing funds to purchase additional
ambulance and medical equipment recently.
"The Health Zone exhibition is
another addition to the community outreach initiatives designed to
promote public health care.
"The theme of the exhibition
‘health for all' in a nutshell embraces its philosophy that the
health of the employees and that of the community is intertwined,"
the BSP Managing Director said.
Organised by Panaga Health Centre,
it is geared to schools in Seria and KB and to the general public.
The public will learn to interpret food labels and calorie values,
at the exhibition.
Guests will discover their body's
health status in a free health assessment and consultation to create
health awareness.
