held yesterday at RTB.
Present as the guest of honour was
Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awg Badaruddin,
Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs, who presented the prizes to
the winners.
The event began with a recital of
Surah al-Fatihah followed by the competition that saw four teams
(two male and two female teams) reciting verses from al-Quran.
Nurul
Quran emerged as the champion team in the male category walking away
with a cash prize of $3,000, atrophy and certificates. In second
place was An-nida winning a cash prize of $2,000 and third place
winner was Al-Qariuun with a cash prize of $1,000.
In the female

The event also witnessed the
recital of al-Quran from Ustaz Mahmoud El-Said Abou Sheishaa and a
Tausyeh performance from students of Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah
Tahfiz Institute.
According to the winning team,
Nurul Quran which comprised Muhammad bin Ali, Ak Muhd Amirul Aiman b
Pg Hj Marjuki, Ak Muhd Adibul Amin b Pg Hj Marjuki and Awg Mohd Zul-Hafiz
b Awg Tengah, they are actually close friends with the other three
teams and they have become more closer over the years through
meeting in competitions and the Quran reading scheme.
Such a grouping is very rare. The
common factor between them is their deep interest in the recital of
al-Quran, which they said has helped them to develop a close
relationship.
Brunei Darussalam is the only
country that organises the format of Zainul Quran, said the chief
adjudicator of the competition, Ustaz Haji Merwan bin Hj Mohd Noh
Batu Bara.
The Zainul Quran, unlike the
conventional Al-Quran recital competition that is held among
individuals, comprises a team of four members reciting verses of al-Quran.
The Zainul Quran competition first
made its debut in 2006 and has since received positive response
especially from youths. -- Courtesy of Borneo
