Melbourne Students Celebrate
National Day
By Syazwana Harun
Bandar Seri
Begawan - The Brunei Students Society Melbourne (BSSMeIb)
organised a National Day celebration recently. The occasion took place at Winner
Hall on Swanston Street.
Although the pageantry of National Day
extravaganza was over, the spirit and its vigour were still
reverberating elsewhere in other parts of the world.
The ceremony started with the
students serenading the national anthem followed by a welcoming
speech delivered by the society president, Dr Ying Yen. Present as
the guest of honour was Pengiran Ayub bin Pengiran Othman, an
Education Attache in Canberra who cut a cake depicting Brunei
national flag.
A variety of individual
performances entertained the guests with the likes of Mahyuddin
Zulkipli, Kamaliah Saiful Rijal, Muneerah Hassanol, Lina Idris and
Amal Liyana Yassin who belted. out their favourite songs accompanied
by a talented trio of students, Fauzi Yassin, Azhan Ahmad and Arif
Sablee, who played the guitar in the background.
To spice up the event, guests
including in-service government officers were treated to an Indian
cuisine, as well as the popular Bingka Susu' prepared by BSSMe1b's
very own ‘Martha Stewart', Amalina Harun. Traditional handicraft
such as 'tudung dulang' and 'tekiding' adorned the buffet table with
striking colours adding up to the festive atmosphere and patriotic
spirit. -- Courtesy of Borneo
