Book To Tackle Baby Dumping, Abortions

Bandar Seri Begawan - In recent times, Brunei has seen a worrying trend of baby dumping and abortion. In view of this, Majlis Wanita Negara Brunei Darussalam has come up with a book in an attempt to manage and emphasise the disturbing topic as well as put to light some civil and Syariah laws related to the issue.

Yesterday, a book entitled "Isu Pembuangan Anak Damit Di Negara Brunei Darussalam" was launched at Dewan Persidangan, Islamic Dakwah Centre in Kg Pulaie.

Present as the guest of honour was Dato Paduka Awang Haji Ishaaq bin Haji Abdullah, Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Religious Affairs.

The event was jointly organised by Islamic Dakwah Centre and Majlis Wanita Negara Brunei Darussalam. It began with the recital of al-Quran and followed by welcoming remark from Datin Hajah Masni binti Haji Mohd Ali, chairperson of the organising committee.

The euest of honour in his speech said the dumping of children is an immoral act borne from the sense of embarrassment associated with giving birth to children out of wedlock.

He added that the abandonment and exposing these innocent infants to hazardous environment that might put the child's life at risk is a grave sin and they face severe punishment in the hereafter.

The event also included a book presentation to various government agencies who have been directly involved with the organisation under Majlis Wanita.
