DPMM FC win in Kuching
By Alex How
Brunei DPMM FC's head coach Vjeran
Simunic has all the reasons to smile when he saw his team beat
Sarawak in a well-deserved 1-0 win at Sarawak Stadium, Kuching last
night.
It was the team's first win, since
New Year, at the capital of Sarawak that earned a vital three points
for Brunei DPMM FC to push them further away from the relegation
zone with 19 points.
Mohd
Shahrazen Said first tested Sarawak keeper Aidil Mohamad in the
early minutes after combining well with teammate Victor Jaganathan.
Jaganathan finding Mohd Shahrazen upfront but his shot was saved by
Aidil.
It was the combination of Mohd
Shahrazen and Jaganathan that slotted home the first goal for Brunei
DPMM FC in the 20th minute. Mohd Shahrazen turned in a Jaganathan's
freekick well to lead 1-0 in Sarawak Stadium.
Pierre Olivier Bakalag was
impressive in his debut posing constant threat to the Sarawak
defence. The striker almost silenced the crowd when he tried an
acrobat kick in the first half only to see it went astray.
Sarawak looked close to score an
equaliser when Shazlan Sarwan made an impressive run penetrating
into Brunei DPMM FC's defence. The Sarawak striker found Nyom Nyom
Aloys upfront only to see his shot went wide the post.
After the restart, Jaganathan could
have added a two-goal cushion for the visitors but Sarawak keeper
Aidil stood firm on the ground to deny the winger's shot.
Didier Belibi, who had a quite game
thus far, almost turned in a free kick won by Bakalag at the edge of
the box only to see it over the bar.
The home team became frustrated and
looked aggressive to look for an equaliser. Despite the fine move
from Sarawak's Nyom Nyom Aloys, he had failed to ignite the team
with couples of chances gone wasted upfront.
Despite the onslaught from Sarawak
in the dying minutes, Brunei DPMM FC held on well for the vital
three points.
