HSBC Basketball Final

Bandar Seri Begawan - Sean Utama Enterprise will square off against Khoon Fen Company in the final of the HSBC Basketball Tournament at the Batu Bersurat Indoor Court tonight.

Undefeated Sean Utama Enterprise stormed into the final by defeating CHMSAA 67-47 in the first semifinal while Khoon Fen Company beat MJ 79-65 in the second semifinal last night.

Sean Utama Enterprise led by national cager Yap Chun Ping played a system of full court press and good teamwork to remain unbeaten thus far.

No 8 Leslie Chua of Sean Utama had an MVP night with 18 points while CHMSAA's Lau Hui Hin top-scored for his team with 14 points. From the first buzzer, Sean Utama were pressing CHMSAA from one end to the other. However CHMSAA managed to keep their composure and fought every point to stay, at 12 points a piece by the end of the first quarter.

In the second quarter, the momentum started to tilt in favour of Sean Utama. With their continuous full court press, CHMSAA began to make numerous costly mistakes and Sean Utama started an unanswered 14-0 run to take the lead to double digit. By the end of the second quarter Sean Utama Enterprise led 3222.

After the break, C14MSAA managed to cut the lead to nine points after No 11 Gob Wen Hong hit a two-pointer from the side but the comeback trail was short-lived. Sean Utama Enterprise held on strongly and led 47-3 5 at the end of the third quarter.

Going into the fourth quarter, Sean Utama Enterprise never looked back and went on to win easily 67-47.

Coach Tony Tan of Sean Utama Enterprise was proud of his boys. "We always play a 1-3-1 formation, the rock solid defence makes it hard for any opponent to penetrate," he said.

"We use full court press since the start of the game because I knew the opponents have only one good ball handler and with the pressure on him, the team will make many mistakes." "In the final, we will continue to use the winning formula," he added. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
