Students Briefed On Importance Of Forests

Bandar Seri Begawan - The Geography Department of Sekolah Menengah Sayyidina Hasan in collaboration with the Forestry Department, Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources, held an educational talk for Form One students yesterday morning. The guest speaker, Dayang Roslinah bte Hj Moksin, briefed the students on the importance of forests in our lives.

The objective of the talk was to raise the students' awareness on the importance of forests locally, regionally and globally, which include preventing soil erosion, landslides and floods.

Dayang Roslinah said the objectives and functions of the Forestry Department in Brunei Darussalam among others include the conservation of Brunei's forests and preventing illegal logging in the country.

During the talk, the students participated in a quiz to test their knowledge of the types of forests in Brunei and the names of forest reserves found around the country. The talk ended with the presentation of prizes to winners of the quiz. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
