Foreign Worker Jailed For Stealing Phone
By Rol Ezam

Bandar Seri Begawan - A 23-year-old Vietnamese was fined $3,000 or in default two months' imprisonment by the Bandar Magistrate's Court after he pleaded guilty to stealing a mobile phone and a charger.

Than Van Tuan who works as a construction worker at the Fire Station Construction project site at Kampong Perpindahan Rataie, Temburong, has to serve the default sentence after failing to pay the fine.

The court heard that the defendant stole his fellow worker's Nokia phone last month after he rummaged a big bag while they were bathing.

Since he has a phone but not the charger, the defendant on March 19 stole one Nokia charger from another bag belonging to his fellow worker.

The defendant has no previous conviction. Deputy Public Prosecutor Christopher Ng prosecuted. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
