PhD Application Clinic At
Centrepoint Hotel Business Centre
By Zasika Musdi
Bandar Seri
Begawan - Applying for a PhD programme has a unique
application procedure that is not used for other degree programmes.
In light of this, HRD Services
Global Education Link will be running a counselling session for
those interested in pursuing such a programme on April 11, at the
Centrepoint Hotel Business Centre from 9.30am to 5pm.
Interested individuals are
encouraged to bring their research proposal, copies of their
qualifications and their CV to the counselling session.
"We have come across a number of
students whose PhD application was unsuccessful, although they had
the right academic background," said Dr Smita Wimmer of HRD
Services. "Studying towards a PhD degree does not suit everybody.
The potential student needs to have a real interest in the chosen
field and should enjoy doing research."
The counselling session will
involve assistance with the research proposal, help with identifying
the most appropriate supervisor and support with the overall
application process.
"The research proposal is a key
requirement for a PhD application and a PhD coordinator at the
university will very quickly pick up the suitability of the
candidate from the proposal," Dr Wimmer added. "A student could have
excellent academic credentials, but these do not help the applicant
if the proposal is poorly written, or does not demonstrate a full
understanding of the research topic."
