131 Fresh Faces At UNISSA

Begawan - Sultan Sharif Aui Islamic University (UNISSA)
yesterday launched its Pre-Session Studies Course 2008/ 2009 at Asma
Hotel in Jerudong.
Present at the launch were Sultan
Sharif Aui Islamic University Knowledge and Language Promotion
Centre Director Pg Anak Dr Hj Amiruddin Alam Shah bin Pg Anak Hj
Ismail, Academic Advisor Professor Datuk Dr Abd Munir bin Ya'kob,
Deputy Rector Dr Hj Mohd Yusop bin Hj Awg Damit Assistant Rector Dr
Hjh Masnon bte Hj Ibrahim, lecturers, management officers and
undergraduates. The second intake has 131' students hailing from all
four districts.
The day saw a speech delivered by
Acting Minister of Education cum guest of honour Pg Dato Seri Setia
Dr Hj Mohammad bin Pg Hj Abd Rahman, who is also the rector of the
university.
In his speech, the guest of honour
noted that fluency in languages is important in developing research,
studies and learning at all levels. This is to ensure that the
university is marketable nationally, regionally and globally.
He said that graduates would be
useful in matters relating to religion and the nation given that
they would be equipped with knowledge in General Islamic studies in
Syariah, usuluddin, laws, Islamic finance, communications and ICT.
New intake Dewi Norlellawati bte Hj
Abd Hamid said that the available courses would enable her to obtain
a degree in Law after she obtained a diploma in the United Kingdom.
She said the four-year course would
open a variety of new laws that are in practice in Brunei, which are
guided by Islamic laws. This includes wills, land inheritance and so
forth.
Ummi Dyana Nabilah bte Abu Hasrah
expressed her happiness at being able to study at a university that
features both Arabic and English mediums. This gives her a chance to
gain greater knowledge in Quran-related matters, and both civil and
family laws.
Meanwhile, Mohammad Nazmi Azwan
said that his great interest in religion propelled him to enroll at
Sultan Sharif Ali Islamic University, adding that he looks forward
to a future career guided by Islamic Law.
Qhairul Azim bin Nayan said he
joined the course in hopes of one day becoming a religious-guided
