Workshop To Tackle Health Issues
Related To Climate Changes

Begawan - A workshop with the Head of Community on Health
Impacts on Climate Changes was held yesterday at the Civil Service
Institute, Kg Rimba. It was attended by 66 people and was Part of
the activities of the World Health Day 2008.
The participants were government
officers from the Health Services Department, Aeronautical
Telecommunication Service, Department of Environment and Recreation,
National Management Disaster Centre, Forestry Department,
Agriculture Department, Schools Department, Drainage and Sewerage
Section and the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Penghulus
and heads of villages as well as representatives from the industries
that play a role in impacting the environment also attended the
workshop.
The workshop was organised by
Professor Jeffery Spickett, Dean of Graduate Studies, Health Science
Faculty, Curtin University of Technology, Australia, along with
officers from the Department of Health Services, Aeronautical
Telecommunication Service and Brunei Shell Petroleum.
Dr Hajah Rahmah binti Hj Md Said,
the Director of Health Environment, in her speech said the workshop
was held to propose health issues related to climate changes with
head of communities and to share and plan strategies that should be
taken to reduce health risks.
"The workshop's summary will be
taken into the National Health and Environment Action Plan at the
national level that will indicate cooperation and integration issues
of environment and health. Another workshop is planned in the month
of June for the realisation of the action plan, which will involve
the relevant agencies," said Dr Hjh Rahmah.
The workshop ended with the
presentation of certificates of participation by the Permanent
Secretary at the Ministry of Health, Dato Paduka Awg Hj Serbini bin
