Sharing Business Ideas With
Ex-Microsoft COO
By Ben Ng
Bandar Seri
Begawan - Former Microsoft Chief Operating Officer (COO) and
famed author Robert J Herbold will be in Brunei Darussalam to attend
a US Brunei Alumni Association luncheon where he will share some of
his secrets to success.
Taking place this month at the
Sheraton Utama Hotel, the event hopes to provide a platform for all
Bruneians who have studied in the US to meet each other and share
business ideas.
Organised
in conjunction with Asia Inc Forum and the American Embassy in
Brunei, the event also hopes to promote the US Brunei Alumni
Association and highlight their existence.
Hailed by many as a seasoned
business leader and a master at improving profitability, Herbold
developed his genius at streamlining operations during his 26 years
at Procter and Gamble - the epitome of business discipline - where
he held several senior executive positions and revolutionised their
product distribution.
"It's going to be very interesting
to hear him speak on how a company and a country can be successful,
and maintain that success," said Asia Inc Foruth Chief Executive
Officer Allen Lai ofthe upcoming event.
During his eight years as COO of
Microsoft, Herbold, utilising his disciplined approach to
streamlining operations, drove a seven-fold increase in profits
while the company's revenues increased four-fold.
"Microsoft is a fantastic example
of a company that for many years has had a dominating presence in
the market and is one company that stays driven," the CEO said,
adding that a lot of Bruneian organisations and companies may
benefit from the experience.
Deputy Chief of Mission at the US
Embassy in Brunei told the Bulletin yesterday that the embassy is
very excited to work with the Alumni Association and Asia Inc Forum
to bring a speaker of Herbold's calibre to Brunei.
"Herbold was at the top of
Microsoft and experienced first-hand of what its like to be number
one, along with the challenges of keeping a good company on top of
its competition," he said.
Herbold, who is also the author of
the book "Seduced by Success", will be in the county on April 16,
where he will present his keynote address labelled: "Seduced by
Success; how companies and countries succeed and stay driven".
All Bruneians who have studied in
the US are invited to attend the luncheon.
