Call For Better Asia-Mideast Ties

Begawan - His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah
reaffirmed Brunei's support for cooperation between Asia and the
Middle East, especially in dealing with natural disasters and
communicable diseases.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs and
Trade was speaking during the first plenary session of the Political
and Security Working Group at the Second Ministerial Meeting of the
Asia-Middle East Dialogue, which ended at the Egyptian Red Sea
resort of Sharm El-Sheikh yesterday.
Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed
Aboul Gheit on Saturday called for more cooperation between Asia and
Mideast to boost cooperation and development between the two
regions, during the opening ceremony of the meeting.
Meanwhile, China's Deputy Minister
of Foreign Affairs Wang Yi, called on countries in both Asia and the
Middle East to seek peaceful solutions to disputes, resolve
differences through dialogue and negotiation, and strive for common
security through cooperation.
He named domestic stability as a
priority of governments, calling on regional countries to remove
destabilizing, factors such as poverty and underdevelopment, and the
international community to do more to promote stability in the two
regions, the Xinhua news agency reported.
His Royal Highness also joined
other ministers and delegation heads at a dinner hosted by the
Egyptian Foreign Minister.
Themed `Partnership in Action
Towards a Better Future', the meeting focuses on three tracks:
political issues; economic issues; social, scientific, and media
issues. Together with Her Royal Highness Pengiran Anak Isteri
Pengiran Anak Hjh Zariah, the minister left Egypt yesterday.
