The Royal Brunei Yacht Club got off
to a flying start in their campaign to lift this year's Darussalam
Cup and the Dr Haj Kamaruddin Cup of the Brunei Rugby Football Union
Inter-club Rugby tournament with a 21-12 win against the Royal
Brunei Armed Forces in their opening game on Saturday night.
Two more games were played
yesterday. Knights blanked Royal Brunei Police Force 35-0 and Bandar
Blacks beat KB Pythons 40-17.
All the penalties for Yachties were
converted by Mark Pygros while Richard Gillan and Syarif Rosani each
have a try.
According to Sukor Ashak, the
vice-captain of RBYC: "It was a close match-up, although the army
boys have most of the possession, they were unfortunate not to
score."
"It's a good win for us, credit
have to be given to the new players who have done exceptionally
well."
Next we will play against the
defending champion, KB Pythons. We will have to beef up our scrum
and line up to defence against them."
The Royal Brunei Yacht Club drew
first blood with a penalty conversion by Mark Pygros in the early
encounter but the army boys managed to score a conversion try to
take the lead on 17th minute.
Before the interval, the Yachties
regained their lead with a conversion try followed by a penalty. By
the end of the first half the Yachties led 13-7.
In the early minutes of second
half, the Yachties scored another penalty in the early minutes
before the Royal Brunei Armed Forces replied with a try to reduce
the deficit.
Five minutes from time, Royal
Brunei Yacht Club scored another try to win comfortably with a nine
points margin.
Present to witness the games
yesterday was Dr Haji Kamaruddin, the President of the Brunei Rugby
Football Union.
