As many as 150 people participated
in the Bukit Mentiri Hike Challenge in conjunction with the 24th
National Day celebration of Brunei Darussalam. It was sponsored by
the Consultative Council Committee members and the Welfare and
Sports Department of Kg Mentiri.
The challenge was divided into six
categories namely Category A for children under the age of 11 to jog
for 1.9km, Category B for men aged between 12 and 33 to jog for
3.7km, Category C for men aged between 34 and 49 to jog for 3.7km,
Category D for men aged above 50 to jog for 2.8km, Category E for
women between 12 and 33 years old to jog for 2.8km and Category F
for women aged 34 and above to jog for 2.8km.
The winner in Category B was Sefli
Ahar while winners in Category C and D were Ahmad Hazwan bin
Abdullah Pagun and Bair bin Kamis respectively.
Nurul
Mahirah bte Miramid emerged as winner in Category E while Category F
was won by Dayangku Salwana bte Pengiran Haji Ibrahim.
Meanwhile, the winner for boys in
Category A was Abdul Hadi Khairin bin Othman while for girls was
Siti NorFazirah bte Timbang.
The prizes were presented by Awang
Haji Haris bin Othman, Assistant District Officer of Brunei-Muara.
The jogathon challenge of Bukit
Mentiri was held as one of the projects for Brunei's 24th National
Day celebration.
It was aimed at encouraging the
public to indulge themselves in sports activities as a healthy way
of living and to appreciate the forest plants and its surroundings
at Kg Mentiri.
