Workshops Paying Off For IT-Based Teachers

Bandar Seri Begawan - The Secondary School Based ICT subject committee came in for high praise yesterday when certificates were presented to participants of a "Multimedia Courseware" and Web Design Development Workshop at the Rimba Secondary School.

Present as guest of honour was Acting Minister of Education.Pengiran Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohammad bin Pengiran Haji Abdul Rahman, along with Haji Daud bin Haji Mahmud, Permanent Secretary (higher education unit) Ministry of Education, Hjh Nurjum binti Haji Mohd Yusuf, Acting Permanent Secretary (Teras education unit) MoE, as well as directors, senior officer, principals and teachers.

The event began with the recital of the Surah al—Fatihah followed by Dk Sarimah bt. Pg Hj Ahmad, Advisor of the Secondary School Based ICT subject committee and Principal of Rimba Secondary School.

The Acting Minister of Education expressed his support for the Secondary School Based ICT subject committee for organizing such workshops to train teachers in the field of ICT and praised their efforts.

He said under the guidance of by Dk Sarimah bt. Pg Hj Ahmad, Advisor of the Secondary School Based ICT subject committee and Chong Jon Fong, ICT trainer and workshop coordinator, the committee has contributed significantly to the development of ICT training for teachers at the primary and secondary level in Brunei.

Since its inception in 2006, some 200 teachers from 30 secondary school and 56 primary schools have participated in the workshop and is an indicator of the extent of its contribution to the country.

The acting minister hoped participants would benefit from their experience at the workshop and become competent educators in the facilitation of ICT and "ICT integration across the curriculum".

The guest of honour then presented certificates to the participants. An "e-portal SMR" and presentation of the participants course work was also included. The event ended with supplication followed by a group photo session. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
